Overview: On March 13, AIA Cleveland hosted an information session on the Urban Design, Land Development and the Innerbelt. The participants in this program identified a number of key design issues related to the Innerbelt reconstruction project and the ways it will affect the future of Downtown Cleveland. While some of these issues remain contentious, it seemed that many simply hadn’t been given sufficient study. The CUDC and AIA perceived a need to anticipate the opportunities and challenges that the proposed configuration will present, both to refine it while there’s still time and to make sure that scarce resources are well-directed toward high quality solutions.
To this end, architects, planners, landscape architects and urban designers from area firms joined CUDC staff, students and alumni for two 1/2 day working sessions devoted to visualizing conditions created by the new Innerbelt and looking at design approaches to them.
