Public Events :: Design Spotlight '04

The work of four of the region’s most innovative smaller architecture firms will be on view at the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative from September 17 to October 29, 2004, as the CUDC hosts its first “Design Spotlight” exhibit. This is planned as the first in an annual series to further the CUDC’s mission of fostering design excellence and serving as a meeting place for professionals and members of the public with an interest in the built environment.

Featuring a variety of projects for housing, restaurants, mixed-use buildings, churches and schools for sites throughout Northeast Ohio, the exhibit will open with a reception on September 17th from 5:30 to 9:30 PM, with principals from the four featured firms in attendance. The public is invited to visit the CUDC and view the work during regular business hours 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday through October 15.

Michael Augoustidis Architects, Cleveland
In the short time since he left the Cleveland firm of Van Dijk, Pace, Westlake, Michael Augoustidis has built an impressive portfolio of well-planned, contemporary design responses to a variety of urban sites, including a number of mixed-use projects in Cleveland and its inner-ring suburbs. One of the most recent of these is Rockport Square, a large re-development project which broke ground this summer along the eastern border of Lakewood. In addition to housing and urban design projects, the firm has also done work on retail and medical facilities.

Process Creative Studios, Cleveland
In the ten years since its founding, John Williams’ firm has received a number of high profile commissions for interior work, including several of Cleveland’s most prestigious restaurants and the Still Lifes Café at the Cleveland Museum of Art. In addition to commercial interiors, Process has begun moving into urban housing, producing carefully detailed solutions to residential redevelopment on constrained sites in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood.

Studio Techne Architects, Cleveland Heights
Founded in 1994 by three recent Kent State graduates, Studio Techne has grown steadily under lead designer Marc Ciccarelli. The firm has a strong track record in child care facilities, with a number of built works throughout Ohio. Ecclesiastical work is another specialty, but the firm has also produced a number of projects for residential and commercial clients. Recent projects range from the Slovenian National Home in Cleveland to current work on the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library.
