Urban River Restoration and Enhancement
Team 3 - Tremont
Dirk Lorenzen, Claudia Manig, Peter Marks, Simone Pester

Team 3 proposed the phased daylighting of the long-buried tributary in the valley between Tremont and Duck Island. In the initial phase (top) the emphasis is on improving runoff from the natural watercourse with new riverfront wetlands. By 2012 (lower) the stream is reintroduced well uphill.

The industrial uses that dominate the site are preserved with the addition of green roofs over which uphill residents can reach the riverfront.

Building on a condition that already exists on the site, the bulkhead is perforated to create a cool resting place for fish. This is connected to the daylighted stream by a filtration wetland.

A marina and public art works are incorporated in the riverfront development. From the Hope Memorial Bridge, the largely industrial site is seen as parkland, thanks to the riverfront development and the greening of roofs and slopes.
