In the wake of the closure of the GM Lordstown plant, the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments initiated a Resiliency Planning process for the areas impacted by GM’s departure. A coordinated recovery team led by partners at Youngstown State University is working with the Council and local stakeholders to assist the Mahoning Valley in responding to the challenges it faces with the closure of this, and subsequent related industry, closures. The CUDC plays a significant role in the Reuse and Redevelopment portion of this work, evaluating and proposing new networks, infrastructures, and facilities to ensure the economic development of the Lordstown site and its surrounding communities.
