27 FEBRUARY 2008
The Urban Design Center of Northeast Ohio will be conducting a workshop on temporary uses for vacant buildings and sites. The workshop will be held on February 27, 2008. We invite local design practitioners, planners, community development corporation staff, artists, neighborhood activists, etc. to join us for a one-day exploration of temporary use projects as a way to stabilize transitional areas, promote economic development, and enhance the quality of life in urban neighborhoods.
The workshop consists of morning presentations at the Urban Design Center, 820 Prospect Avenue in Cleveland. In the afternoon, we will tour several neighborhoods and talk about ideas for temporary use projects for specific sites. Workshop participants are encouraged to make recommendations about potential sites to look at when they register for the event. As an outcome of the workshop, we will select and implement at least one temporary use project for a Cleveland neighborhood.
The workshop has been made possible with the support of the Sears-Swetland Foundation. It is being co-sponsored by the Cleveland Neighborhood Development Coalition and the Cleveland Section of the Ohio Planning Conference.
