Madison Avenue Corridor Plan

Described by residents as the “forgotten street,” the Madison Avenue corridor runs for 2.2. miles through the Detroit-Shoreway and Cudell neighborhoods. The CUDC was asked to examine the redevelopment prospects for the variety of residential, commercial and industrial sites that front the street. A Steering Committee of stakeholders, property owners, area residents and city officials hosted three rounds of open public forums to generate ideas and feedback. This process identified development and character goals for the series of target areas along the corridor.

Both Cudell Improvement and Detroit-Shoreway Community Development Organization have used the plan to support funding requests. The plan shows a significant redevelopment opportunity for the former Midland Steel site, which has since been acquired by the City of Cleveland for a future business park. New housing included in the plan would be financed by a pending Street widths are reduced to make the over-scaled intersection of Madison and West 85th Street more pedestrian friendly. The insertion of a small plaza on currently under used parking lot enhances the value of storefront renovations and recent and proposed residential conversions of industrial buildings in the vicinity.
